Valorization of Seafood Processing Discards: Bioconversion and Bio-Refinery Approaches

چکیده

The seafood industry generates large volumes of waste. These include processing discards consisting shell, head, bones intestine, fin, skin, voluminous amounts wastewater discharged as effluents, and low-value under-utilized fish, which are caught by-catch commercial fishing operations. discards, rich in nutrients including proteins, amino acids, lipids containing good proportions polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), carotenoids, minerals. waste is, therefore, responsible for loss serious environmental hazards. It is important that the subjected to secondary valorization address problems. Although chemical processes available treatment, most these have inherent weaknesses. Biological treatments, however, environmentally friendly, safe, cost-effective. treatments based on bioconversion processes, help with recovery valuable ingredients from by-catch, without losing their bioactivities. Major make use microbial fermentations or actions exogenously added enzymes components. Recent developments algal biotechnology offer novel biotransformation single cell can be used feedstock also biofuel. Bioconversion options conjunction a bio-refinery approach potential eco-friendly economical management support sustainable production.

Food Waste and Byproduct Valorization through Bio-processing: Opportunities and Challenges

The bioeconomy era will rely on efficient fractionation of renewable resources via integrated biorefineries. The food supply chain waste, despite its inherent variability, could evolve into an important industrial feedstock on account of its availability, versatility, and sustainability, for the production of bio-based products. Waste streams generated from all stages of the life cycle of food ...

Variety and the Evolution of Refinery Processing

Evolutionary theories of economic development stress the role of variety as both a determinant and a result of growth. In this paper we develop a measure of variety, based on Weitzman's maximum likelihood procedure. This measure is based on the distance between products, and indicates the degree of differentiation of a product population. We propose a generic method, which permits to regroup th...

Mild Alkaline Treatment Activates Spruce Wood for Enzymatic Processing: a Possible Stage in Bio- Refinery Processes

The structure of wood is so compact that enzymes are too large to penetrate into the structure and thereby attack the wood components for modifications that can be valuable for various purposes. Here we present a pretreatment method based on traditional kraft pulping, which opens the wood structure, so that enzymes are able to attack the wood components. To study this kind of chemical pretreatm...
